Educators work within a system built to burn us out. We work in a highly demanding and under-resourced field in which it is difficult to sustain our personal well-being and professional efficacy. Chronic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout can negatively impact our job performance, the health of our relationships, and our own physical and mental well-being. In this series, Ricky Robertson will facilitate personal and professional learning in which participants will learn to: identify the signs and symptoms of chronic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout; assess our levels of burnout; engage in practices that foster our well-being and resilience; and discuss the importance of school and district-wide practices that support educator well-being, retention, and efficacy. 
 
NOTE: Each session will be recorded and available to registered members via the Member's Only tab for 2-weeks following the session.

June 20 - When Stress Becomes Contagious: In 2017, the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence & The New Teacher Center surveyed over 7,000 teachers about their emotional well-being. The most common emotions reported by teachers were frustratedoverwhelmed, and stressed (Bracket et al 2018). Chronic stress, as well as compassion fatigue and burnout negatively impact our ability to support students. More information here
 
July 11 - Putting Your Oxygen Mask on First: In this session, participants will complete an assessment to determine their level of burnout. We will then explore self-care as a relationship we cultivate with ourselves rooted in kindness, gentleness, compassion, and respect. July 25 - Psychological Safety Among Teams: When educators are subjected to highly stressful work environments unhealthy workplace behaviors can take root. Isolation, workplace “cliques,” gossip, scapegoating, and workplace bullying behaviors can create socially and emotionally unsafe work environments that impede effective collaboration.  More information here
 
August 8 - Collective Care is Essential:  Self-care is important but not enough. Ricky has found that educators are the most effective at improving student outcomes when they feel supported and valued. In this final session, Ricky will guide participants in exploring case studies that show how schools and districts can develop and implement practices that foster educator well-being, recruitment, retention, and success. Ricky Robertson is an author, educator, and consultant. He has had the privilege of working with pre-k to 12th grade students who persevered in adversity and trauma. He co-authors the Corwin Press bestselling book, "Building Resilience in Students Impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences: A Whole Staff Approach." The California Surgeon General’s Office adopted the MTSS model he and his co-authors developed in their book as an example of best practices for schools to support children and families impacted by trauma. Ricky advises state and federal policymakers on trauma-informed care in public health and education policy.  As a consultant and coach, Ricky works with schools, districts, and state education departments across the country to assist them in building resilient systems that foster achievement and well-being among educators and students. 2023 Youth Report: LGBTQ+ Youth with Disabilities

Webinar Recording

The webinar will feature a brief presentation of key data from HRC’s sub-report on the responses from LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities. Additionally, the webinar will include a conversation with youth and educators on how to support LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities best. Attendees will leave the webinar with a better understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities and strategies to support them. This webinar is co-hosted by the National Education Association (NEA) and the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE).

 
Registration Guidance for Virtual Learning
Virtual sessions are designed to provide world-class learning and networking opportunities to strengthen and grow the field of special education leadership. The procedures for virtual sessions are included below.
  • Registrations are for each individual person who will attend an event.
  • You will need to enter your individual CASE Member ID during registration. Members get a reduced rate for CASE Events. Not a member yet? You can join here!
  • For group registrations of 10 or more, contact Debbi Magnifico at [email protected] for group processing information. Please note: Payments are made via credit card and must be received before the event.
  • Event cancellations should be submitted to Debbi Magnifico at [email protected] and will be honored up to a week before the event for a refund minus a 25% administrative fee.
  • Virtual learning recordings are available to participants who have registered and paid for two weeks once the training concludes. These two weeks cannot be extended.  
By participating in this virtual event, you agree not to save, record, share, or post recordings or any photos from recordings without prior written permission from CASE. The Council of Administrators of Special Education uses remote learning opportunities through video communication. You must respect the privacy and intellectual property rights of our recordings. As a benefit of being a member, you have access to many free virtual learning opportunities that address the unique challenges of special education leadership!
