BUILDING INDEPENDENCE, REDUCING RELIANCE: A TWO-PART SERIES

Presented by Patrick Mulick

Building IndependenceIf our students are going to be more independent as adults, then we need to be building up their independence now. However, many districts struggle with an over-reliance on 1:1 paraprofessionals to support students with disabilities. This dynamic and content-rich course offers district and school leaders a practical blueprint for building sustainable, inclusive support systems that value student autonomy. Learn how to implement targeted structures and strategies that promote independence and reduce the dependence on 1:1 adults.

Part 2: Unlocking Potential and Promoting Independence in the Classroom

Student success is not measured by how they perform in our presence, but by how well they thrive in our absence. Supporting students with disabilities requires a careful balance—providing meaningful assistance without fostering overdependence. This engaging session equips educators with practical, ready-to-use strategies that promote independence and autonomy in the classroom. Participants will leave with both the mindset and tools needed to help students reach their full potential while reducing reliance on adult support.

First offering: February 11, 2026 12:00-2:00 PM (Central Time)
Second offering: February 27, 2026 10:00 AM-12:00 PM (Central Time)
