The CASE Discipline Virtual Series provides comprehensive, practical guidance on discipline under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Designed to build both foundational knowledge and deeper legal understanding, the series supports leaders in making defensible discipline decisions that protect students’ rights while maintaining safe and supportive learning environments.
Together, these offerings create a cohesive learning pathway—equipping special education leaders, teachers, and implementers with the knowledge, clarity, and tools needed to navigate discipline with confidence and consistency. Discipline Boot Camp![]() The foundational overview all education leaders need to complete to discipline students effectively under the IDEA.This is a prerequisite session to the Discipline Deeper Dive Series.The CASE Discipline Boot Camp provides special education leaders foundational knowledge with clear, practical guidance on discipline under IDEA. This focused training breaks down complex legal requirements into actionable steps, helping administrators make compliant, confident decisions when discipline issues arise. Some topics covered during this Boot Camp include: historical review of the Rules of Discipline for Students with Disabilities, and answers to questions such as how those rules apply to in-school suspension, bus suspension, general education students not yet identified, and students who commit crimes and exhibit other dangerous behaviors. Invite your principals, assistant principals, 504 coordinators, nurses, and superintendents (all staff are appropriate for this training). Julie J. Weatherly, Esq. is the owner of Resolutions in Special Education, Inc., a special education law and consulting firm in Alabama. Julie is a member of the State Bars of Alabama and Georgia and for more than 36 years has provided consultation and legal representation to school agencies across the country in the area of educating students with disabilities. Julie has been a member of the faculty for many national and state legal institutes and is a frequent speaker at special education law conferences. Julie has developed a number of training programs that support special education legal compliance and has been published nationally as a part of her trainings, workshops, and seminars. In June of 1996, Julie appeared on the CBS news program "60 Minutes" to discuss the cost of meeting the legal requirements of IDEA. In 1998, she was honored by Georgia's CEC as the Individual who had Contributed Most to Students with Disabilities, and in April 2012, Julie received the Award for Outstanding Service from CASE.
